Objectively the 'Singlish' phenomenon can be attributed to what is called 'language change' in sociolinguistics. From its standpoint, the development of a non-standard variety of a language is a natural occurrence of language change, and there's nothing good or bad about it as long as it can be effectively used as a tool of communication which is one of the most important functions of language, after all. For this reason I do not frown upon the use of 'Singlish'.

It is inappropriate to compare them in this way....

Cant u you find that the situations have already been mentioned in the Britain part in most of the conversations above??? That is why a few words can make the answer in the s'poreans' part...

However, frankly speaking...singlish is really a very simple local language...

Anyway, use it if you like it...
[em05][em05]

You don't speak Singlish to them just like you don't speak Chinese to "ang mo".

What talking u...u know whom "ang mo" refers to or not..(Forgive me for using Singlish here, just once only, never again in the future)

I don't understand why you feel so ashame of Singlish. Singlish is bad English, and definitely English is bad Singlish.

The trick is know when to switch between the two. Most people from higher education background will know what to do after working with foreigners for a while. You don't speak Singlish to them just like you don't speak Chinese to "ang mo".

Those with lower education will have problem switching between Singlish and English. And there is no reason why we should make fun of them.

You should appreciate Singlish. It is Singapore's native language. It is one language that will make you feel closer to another Singaporean, especially in foreign lands. Not that bull shit American or Queen English!!
