<P>now i always speak the informal english...singlish...like no need ah..</P><P>but i think it is the pure cultrue of sg..in fact, language is the a part of civilization. and the  world is so big that the original culture, which have been spread for a long time, have become much different in many places. english is the thing...other british culture backgrounds countries' oral english is very different compared with it in england. </P><P>like our chinese..the oral chinese is very different in many part of chinese culture backgrounds districts. cantonese, shanghai'ese, sichuanese...even the sg's local chinese...all the tongues and the accents are totally different..</P><P>so for this thought in my mind..i dun reject singlish..even i accept it...an adage says: do as the romers' do.. i am very open in culture's difference and diversity.</P>

<P>My former English teacher is a Malaysian. She spoke standard English when she was having lessons with us. However, she asked us not to look down on Singlish. She said it is a tool to communicate with Singaporeans.</P><P>Singlish may have distorted the original languages which consist the Singlish, but that is why it holds so many people of different races together. </P><P>Last time in Singapore, so many people can speak many languages and dialects. Singlish is a cultural product. </P><P>No one can be blamed for not speaking not-so-standard English~~</P><P>There is a book from my English teacher's aunt, famous author Catherin Lim. Guess we should check it out when we have time~~</P><P>Last time Catherine Lim was interviewed by BBC and addressed on Singlish. It is SIngapore's symbol, something SIngaporeans are proud of. </P><P>Maybe after reading different related views and literatures on development of Singlish, then we can have a more objective view on Singlish.</P><P>Let the discussion go on~~ </P>[em04]

<P>No need to be angry with Singaporeans who look down on us. The truth is that many of them cannot do as well as Chinese people. We have advantages in many areas. Singaporeans are arrogant but that is also part of their culture. You need to realise this. So that you won't feel so upset about it.</P><P>In terms of studies or work, we are more hardworking than a lot of Sinagporeans. We are willing to try but Singaporeans are fussy and a lot of them are LAZY. Even some Singaporeans themselves are criticizing their own people. They are arrogant for nothing!</P><P>Singapore government has made sure that the people are safe and taken good care of. That is why the Singaporeans can sit down, relax and enjoy the privileges for being Singaporeans! That is why I always hope that our country can develop faster so that we will feel proud wherever we go and constantly. </P><P>There is another reason why some Singaporeans are arrogant,they are greatly influenced by the American culture~especially the younger generations. </P><P><FONT color=#1111ee>However, there are humble and nice Singaporeans!!!</FONT></P><P><FONT color=#000000>Anyway, I never said that we should learn Singlish or we only learn Singlish in Singapore. There are so many instituitions what give us opportunities to learn standard english here. </FONT></P><P>lastly, I would like to say that,well,苦口咖啡,I do feel that you are not happy with Singapore. Take it easy la...last time i was also furious about some people's attitude towards us but we 've got to prove that we are somebody!watch out!</P>[em05]

<P>Standard english is the basic one. so no matter we will learn Singlish or not, we'd better master the standard english first. coz we will not just stay in Sgp in the future, and what is the most important is that we are really not Singaporean. </P><P>I think most of us coming to Sgp not only study for further education or work, but improve our english also. originally the english we want to learn is not singlish, isn't it? so if we won't stay here, i dun think studying singlish is useful; vice versa. However, whether learn or not can only be decided by ourselves.</P><P>Many Singaporeans looks Chinese ppl down, i m very angry with that, but actually, we also look them down.</P><P>(no malice to Sgp) </P>

<P>I always have the same feeling,too. Some Singaporeans are so rude! I don't know whether China will become very powerful and united very soon~~but I hope it will be very soon!</P>[em04]
